BA Hons Professional Musicianship - BIMM

Grade 8 Drum Kit, Snare Drum, Timpani

Grade 6 orchestral percussion

grade 5 music theory, alto sax and piano

I have been teaching for over ten years both privately and as a peripatetic teacher for the Lincolnshire Music Service. I have been teaching full time at Shugs since July 2019.

I studied at BIMM in Brighton and learned from amazing teachers such as Steve White (Paul Weller, Style Council), Vinnie Lammie (Spice Girls), Pat Garvey (Bimm, Rhythm Magazine) and Andy Maclure (Sleeper).

I love performing and have over twenty years experience. I have been lucky to go on tours around Europe and Ireland with Bear Makes Ninja, conducted the Tree Army Samba Band and Boston Youth Jazz Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall (MFY) and played at many festivals including Arctangent, Dot to Dot, Handmade and Tramlines to name a few. In early 2020, I played at Nottingham Motorpoint Arena with the Ultra 90s Dance Experience Tour featuring Dario G, Baby D, Kelly Llorenna, Cappella, Urban Cookie Collective and Livin' Joy feat. Luzahnn. Unfortunately, the tour for 2020 was cancelled due to Covid-19.

During the pandemic, I have had to adapt my whole career. I quickly adapted to teaching online for most of the year, and also started teaching drums at Kesteven and Sleaford High School (when restrictions permit).

Instead of gigging every weekend, I have started a YouTube channel to help students practice. I'm also remotely recording and setting up a weekly drumming and practice pad livestream!

I believe that lessons should be fun and I cater them individually for each student. Lessons are a mix of learning how to read, playing to backing tracks, improvising, styles, rudiments and playing along with musicians. I try to get students performing as often as they can (If they want to!) at open mic nights and other youth music events. I have entered two young rock bands into the Music for Youth Festival and both times they made it to the Regional Finals at Birmingham Conservatoire and Birmingham Town Hall.

I am passionate about teaching and deliver enthusiastic lessons for children and adults.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

"I love my drumming lessons ! I feel as though I've learnt a lot in just a few sessions!"
